Biden praises Al-Kadhimi leadership and stressed Iraq sovereignty

A government source revealed, on Wednesday, that US President Joe Biden praised the leadership of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, while noting that he emphasized the preservation of Iraq's sovereignty.

"PM Al-Kadhimi is the first Arab president to receive a call from US President Joe Biden, before the rulers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the Emirates, Egypt and Qatar," said a government source to Iraqi News Agency (INA).

PM Al-Kadhimi tweeted on Twitter, that he "discussed with US President Joseph Biden the development of bilateral relations and strengthening the partnership, as well as work to continue the strategic dialogue between the two countries,”

Earlier, the media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement that “Al-Kadhimi, on Tuesday evening, received a phone call from the US President Joseph Biden, and during the call they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, and the situation in Iraq as well as the region, in addition to a number of regional and international issues of common interest,"

The two sides also discussed strengthening joint cooperation between Baghdad and Washington and ways to develop it in various fields, foremost among which is economic and security cooperation, as well as in the field of counterterrorism, according to the statement.

The PM and the US President also talked about the resumption of the strategic dialogue between the two countries, in a way that advances the relationship on the basis of common interests and the strengthening of Iraqi national sovereignty.

The statement included "The importance of protecting diplomatic missions in Iraq was emphasized, and attempts to undermine security and stability in Iraq and the region were rejected,"
