Argentine media reported that the country's former president, Carlos Menem, passed away today, Sunday, at the age of 91.

Reports stated that "Menem, who came from a family of Syrian immigrants, died after a long illness."

Menem served as head of state from 1989 to 1999, and he also ran in the 2003 elections, where he lost to Nestor Kirchner.
