PM’s advisor: The international community is ready to support the elections

Baghdad – INA

The Advisor to the Prime Minister for Elections Affairs, Dr. Abdul-Hussein Al-Hindawi, confirmed today, Friday, the readiness of the international community to support the elections in the field of monitoring.

Al-Hindawi said to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the meeting of Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein with the ambassadors of the United States and Britain and the Chargé d'Affairs of France discussed the issue of international election observation and the international community's readiness to support the elections in Iraq in the field of observation."

On the other hand, Al-Hindawi stated that the Electoral Commission is working according to the date set for the elections, and that the government and the Presidency of the Republic have a role in determining the date of the elections and not within the mandate of the Commission.

He added that "the commission has set a timetable for the electoral process, but some forces objected and requested a review of the date of registration of entities and alliances to give a greater opportunity because it believes that this time is not sufficient to register candidates and alliances," noting that the President of the Supreme Judicial Council asked the Commission for a realistic explanation of those claims and whether or not you can do so.
