Al-Kadhimi stresses the importance of developing cooperation with NATO

Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi stressed today, Tuesday, the importance of developing cooperation with NATO, in light of the security forces continuing their operations in the face of terrorism.

The media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi received a phone call today, Tuesday, from the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, and during the call discussed joint cooperation between Iraq and NATO and ways to strengthen it, especially with regard to providing support to the Iraqi security and military institutions in the areas of training, advice, and intelligence cooperation, according to the priorities and directives of the Iraqi government and in a manner that preserves the sovereignty of Iraq.

According to the statement, Al- Kadhimi pointed to "the importance of developing cooperation with NATO, in light of the Iraqi security forces continuing their military operations in the face of terrorism and pursuing the remnants of ISIS terrorist gangs."

For his part, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg praised the Iraqi government's "steps in the field of combating terrorism," stressing "the continued support of NATO to Iraq in efforts to pursue terrorist organizations, and Stoltenberg expressed the admiration of the (NATO) countries for the government's steps in its commitment to the reform approach it has adopted." And proceeded to implement it to advance the realities of the country.
